Best shoes to wear to Disney World

Did you know that a typical Disney vacation day will likely include 15,000 to 25,000 steps?? That’s right your Disney vacation is going to be a true workout for those toes of yours. Considering you’ll likely be doing this for multiple days in a row, I wanted to share my favorite, park tested shoes that will help you get through all of those steps without torturing your tootsies.

BirkenstocksBirkenstocks can be a great option for a park day. If you already have a reliable pair that you’ve broken in well, toss them into that suitcase and they will be a great shoe for you to wear at the park. If you don’t have any or have a pair you haven’t broken in yet, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to break in these sandals. Once Birkenstocks have formed to your foot, they are an incredibly comfortable option but wearing these on a 20,000 step day without breaking them in appropriately could lead to blisters. Also, even if you have a pair you’ve worn a lot but haven’t worn in a while you will want to get them out and where them at home before your trip. This was a lesson I learned the hard way! I had a trusty pair of birks but took them to the park after not wearing them at home for several months and still ended up with blisters just because my feet weren’t used to them.

Croc sandals – Another favorite park shoe for my crew are Crocs. The sandals provide the right bounce and support while also having a footbed with raised areas that almost massage your feet while you walk. These have really become one of my top picks because I can wear them multiple days and my feet don’t get overly tired and they’ve never given me blisters. We also enjoy the classic crocs or the croc tennis shoes

My sis and I rocking our Crocs at Magic Kingdom! Wondering how we got those hitchhiking ghosts in our pic? Check out this article on Disney’s Memory Maker.

Rubber sandals – OK, so I realize “rubber sandals” might not be the best product description you’ve ever seen, but I just wasn’t sure what to call these. No matter what you call them, you can call these sandals amazing! These double buckle sandals were an absolute shocker on my last Disney trip. You guys…these sandals are $15 – $20 and they held up amazingly well for a full 12 hour park day. I never would have guessed that I could get the same comfort out of this very affordable sandal as I do with ones that are 5 times the cost. These sandals were just cushy enough to keep my feet supported and were also great because it rained the day I wore them and I didn’t have to deal with soggy tennis shoes. I cannot give these shoes enough kudos! I loved them so much I came home and immediately ordered the black pair.

For only $20 – $25, these double buckle sandals are an amazing deal for a comfortable park shoe!

Running shoes – I know some of you just really aren’t sandals people or maybe your going when it will be cooler and want to be able to wear socks. If you are going to wear tennis shoes to the parks, I would strongly recommend a good running shoe. My family are ASICS fans and frequently wear these to help endure long park days. I have also had really good luck wearing these Nike running shoes for long park days.

More pro tips:

  • Good socks – Pack comfortable socks that you know work well with the shoes you’re taking.
  • Rotate your shoes – If possible, don’t wear the same shoes every day of your trip. This will prevent your feet from being rubbed in the same places every day. Also, you will want to have back up shoes in case something on your shoe breaks or they get soaked in a Florida shower.
  • Throw a tennis ball in your bag – Rolling your foot over a tennis ball can be a great way to massage your foot at the end of a long day and it won’t take up hardly any space in your bag.
  • Pack mole skin – Mole skin is the best solution I’ve found to cover blisters. I carry a box of patches in my park bag every trip. I’ve even worn one of these patches on the bottom of my foot for a whole park day and it didn’t peel off at all.

To be perfectly clear, you aren’t going to come out of a Disney day without your feet and legs being tired. The shoes I’ve identified here are the ones I’ve found I have the least soreness from. Whatever shoes you choose to wear to Disney, make sure you break them in ahead of time. I strongly recommend prepping for the walking you’ll be doing at Disney not just in increasing your daily steps but also for finding which shoes you’ll get the best results with. Disney vacations are going to give you some beautiful memories. Don’t let sore feet and blister battles be the memories that stand out the most!
