If you’re getting ready for your first Disney Cruise, you probably have a million questions. What should you pack? How early should you book? What’s worth doing—and what can you skip? I’ve been there. After a multitude of Disney sailings, I’ve learned what really makes a Disney cruise smoother, easier, and more fun. These are the ten things I wish I’d known before stepping onboard.
No matter how much you prepare, your first Disney Cruise will be full of surprises. I remember boarding my very first sailing on the Disney Dream, not realizing how many little details would have made my trip better. I’ve learned a lot about how Disney Cruise Line works—and what I wish I had known from the start.

If you’re planning your first Disney cruise, here are 10 things that can make your vacation even more magical (and stress-free):
1. Book early.
Disney cruise prices almost always go up as the ship fills, so the earlier you book, the better your rate and stateroom options. Waiting rarely pays off unless there’s a special offer later—and those are usually limited and selective.
2. Guaranteed rooms can save money—but come with trade-offs.
A “guaranteed” room means you’re guaranteed a certain stateroom category (like verandah or oceanview) but Disney chooses your exact room location. You’ll often pay less, but you may end up near elevators, at the front or back of the ship, or on a lower deck.
3. Download and use the Navigator app.
This app is your daily guide to everything happening on the ship—show times, dining rotation, kids’ club hours, character meet-and-greets, and even onboard chat. It’s a must-have, especially since you won’t have normal cell service once you set sail.
4. Pack swimsuits in your carry-on.
Your luggage might not arrive at your room until later in the day. Having swimsuits ready means you can head straight to the pool or AquaDuck while the ship is still in port and the crowds are light.
Did you know that if you book your Disney cruise through me you will save even more? That’s right! For cruises booked through me, I offer an onboard credit that can be as much as $1000! This will help cover your ship expenses like gratuities and spa services. Message me today to get your planning started!
5. Room service is included.
Yes, really! You can order snacks, desserts, and even Mickey-shaped ice cream bars right to your stateroom at no extra cost. It’s one of those small Disney Cruise perks that makes the experience feel extra special.
6. Dining is rotational—and your servers rotate with you.
Instead of eating at the same restaurant each night, you’ll rotate through different themed dining rooms. Your same servers follow you, so they learn your preferences and take care of you throughout the cruise.

7. Don’t skip the shows.
Disney Cruise Line’s Broadway-style performances are incredible—these aren’t “cruise-quality” shows, they’re full productions. Arrive a little early to get a good seat, and make sure to see at least one of the signature shows unique to your ship.
8. Pack for Pirate Night.
Pirate Night is a Disney Cruise tradition—complete with themed menus, costumes, deck parties, and fireworks at sea. Bring pirate accessories or costumes for your whole family so you’re ready to join in on the fun.
9. Leave the towels at home.
Disney provides towels for the pool, beach days at Castaway Cay, and even for Port Adventures. Save the suitcase space for souvenirs instead.
10. Don’t over-schedule.
There’s a lot to do on a Disney Cruise—activities, meet-and-greets, trivia, and excursions—but some of the best moments come when you slow down. Sit on your verandah, grab a coffee in the Cove Café, or just relax by the pool and watch the ocean.
Your first Disney Cruise doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With a little advance planning—and a lot of flexibility—you can avoid common surprises and focus on enjoying the magic. These tips are the things that truly make a difference, helping your sailing feel smoother, more relaxed, and more fun from embarkation day to the final goodbye.
