How Much Time Can You Save With Disney Genie Plus?

On my last Disney vacation, I did 6 consecutive days in the parks. While it was incredible to have so much time in the parks, it was also quite tiring. The last day was a girl’s day in Magic Kingdom. We only had one day to knock out a big list of things we wanted to do. Thanks to Genie plus, we had an amazing day!

This particular day we saved over 7 hours of time we would have spent standing in line. This helped us get so much done and after 6 park days, my feet were so thankful to not have to stand in those long lines.

Mickey’s Philharmagic is a top filler attraction. It’s a very entertaining 4D show that rarely has a long wait.

Now, let me be clear saving this much time is not the norm. On average, at Magic Kingdom, my crew saves about 4-5 hours of time. So why were we able to save so much time in a single day? Well, this particular trip was over spring break which meant wait times were high and every line we were able to skip saved us lots of minutes. Also, I have a strong knowledge of using Genie plus which definitely makes a difference. If you want to make the most out of a Genie plus purchase, I strongly recommend doing research on how to use it before you go. Don’t want to do research? Let me plan your Disney vacation and I will do an individualized call with you to share all of my tips and tricks!

So, let’s talk about how this day played out. The Lightning Lane that we entered the park with was Space Mountain. This was the top of our must ride list and so I booked it first.

This particular day the park opened at 9:00. We were able to enter the park a little before 9 and made it down Main St in time to watch the opening castle stage show. Immediately after the stage show, we headed to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. We used this as a “filler” ride. Filler rides are rides that typically have a shorter wait, that you can put in between your Lightning Lane (LL) reservations. Lightning Lanes are what you book through Genie Plus to expedite being able to get on rides. Looking for more basics about what Genie Plus is and how to use it? Check out this article which is my Genie plus 101.

Lightning Lanes are also available for character meet and greets. This is another great way to save time and keep your little ones from getting antsy in long lines.

We finished Space Ranger Spin just in time for our Space Mountain LL. As soon as we scanned in to Space Mountain, we booked our next LL which was The Haunted Mansion. With Haunted Mansion being a fairly popular attraction, our LL was about an hour and a half away. The standby line for Haunted Mansion was 45 minutes when we booked our LL but because we didn’t have to stand in that line we used our time to ride the Jungle Cruise and get a coffee.

We continued to work our way through the day booking a new LL every time we scanned into an existing one. Wait times this day were ranging from 35 to 90 minutes. We were in the parks from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. this day and with Lightning Lanes we were able to avoid 570 minutes of standing in line. We used the time we weren’t standing in line to get snacks, do some shopping, eat lunch and dinner, put in our filler attractions, watch the parade, watch the castle stage show and watch the fireworks. By the end of this day, we had ridden Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Tea Cups, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Small World, Little Mermaid, Big Thunder Mountain, Philharmagic and Tomorrowland Speedway.

So, what Genie Plus hacks did we use to get this much out of our Disney day?

  1. Start booking your LL at 7 a.m.
  2. Never be without a LL
  3. Book as soon as you can to start the 120 min lag rule. Even if you can’t find the perfect ride at the perfect time, you can start your 120 min window and then look to modify your LL for something you would rather have.
  4. Plan your filler activities and rides in close proximity to where your next LL will be.

As you can see, on busy park days, Genie Plus can save you a tremendous amount of time. Standing in line for long periods of time can be very boring and difficult with little kids. Lightning Lane is a great way to keep things moving and add more enjoyable experiences into your Disney day.
