Is a Disney vacation part of your dream for 2024? Choosing the right time to go can significantly impact your experience. Let’s explore the best and worst times to visit, steering clear of crazy crowds like marathon weekends and embracing the magic of festivals.
When planning your visit to Disney World in 2024, timing is crucial, and several factors should be considered to insure a seamless and enjoyable experience. If you’ll be traveling with kids, you will want to take into account school and activity schedules. Avoiding peak vacation times when families flock to the parks will enhance your experience if you can swing it. You will also want to consider when you will be able to easily take time away from work. Traveling during a slower time for your business will make it easier on the company you work for and less stressful for you. Weather is another crucial factor; opting for months with milder temperatures helps make the outdoor adventures more comfortable. If you have to travel during the summer months, make sure you are prepared for that hot summer sun with things like neck fans or cooling towels. By carefully navigating these considerations, you can maximize the joy of your Disney World adventure and create lasting memories for everyone in your group.
Best Times to Visit:
- Off-Peak Seasons: Aim for mid-January to mid-February or mid-September to mid-November for lower crowds and pleasant weather. Remember that the winter months can be chilly and that hurricane season is mid-August through mid-November.
- Festivals and Special Events:
Festivals:
The Epcot festivals add a vibrancy to this park that you won’t want to miss! The great news is that there are festivals almost all year long so you can just choose the theme you want to see and visit during that time. All four are wonderful and can be fun for the whole family.

- Epcot International Festival of the Arts (January 12th-February 19th): Immerse yourself in artistic flair with stunning art exhibits, live musical performances, and culinary delights. During this festival you will find interactive activities like a paint by number mural where you can be a part of creating the art. You will also find booths featuring unique Disney themed art and paintings that you can purchase to bring a piece of the magic home with you.
- Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival (Begins Feb 28th. Typically ends in June): This absolutely stunning festival transforms Epcot into a flowering delight with vibrant displays, horticultural exhibits, captivating character topiaries and delicious outdoor kitchens. It seems that Disney touches every piece of the park for this festival with beautiful flowers and living art.
- Epcot International Food and Wine Festival (July-November): Savor global cuisines and beverages, enhancing your Disney experience with a culinary journey. This event is one of Disney’s most famed festivals. The food booths located throughout the park offer tasty small plates that you can enjoy while exploring the wonders of this park. You will also find numerous wine and cocktail options offered at each of these booths. The festival brings the popular Eat to the Beat series that routinely features well known artists like Boyz II Men and Sugar Ray.
- Epcot International Festival of the Holidays (Late November-December): Embrace the holiday spirit with festive decorations, seasonal entertainment, and tasty treats. This holiday themed festival will introduce your crew to holiday traditions from around the world. Here you can also experience the Candlelight Processional where celebrity readers will bring you the traditional Christmas story while being accompanied by a beautiful choir.

Special Events:
- Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Mid-August-October): Delight in a spook-tacular experience with exclusive shows, parades, spooky treats and character meet-ups. If you are a fan of Halloween, this is the perfect time for you to visit. This party is the one chance that adults have to wear costumes to Disney World. Your crew will have a blast with the unlimited Trick or Treating available around the park during this party. Avoid the peak Halloween night for a less crowded experience.
- Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (November-December): Celebrate the season with a magical holiday party featuring festive decorations, special shows, and even snowfall on Main Street U.S.A. This party is my favorite thing that the parks offer. It is the most magical time to visit, and you will forever cherish the memories you make during this merry event. Worst Times to Visit:
- Peak Holiday Periods: Christmas week and the week leading up to Easter bring high crowds and longer wait times. You may also want to avoid popular school breaks like Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks as these also see high crowd numbers.
- Summer Months: June through August sees increased attendance due to school vacations. These months also can be crazy hot so be mindful of whether or not your crew will be able to stand the heat.
- Marathon Weekends: If you are not going to run, skip race weekends. These weekends draw large crowds and may disrupt park access. Current race dates for 2024 are:
- Walt Disney World Marathon January 3-7
- Princess 1/2 marathon February 22-26
- Springtime Surprise April 18-21
Choosing the best time to visit Disney World involves avoiding peak times, embracing festivals, and experiencing special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. By strategically planning your visit, you can make the most of your magical journey without the hassle of large crowds.
