10 Essential Tips for Saving Your Feet at Disney World

Disney World is magical and wonderful, but it can also be a marathon for your feet. With miles of walking, standing in queues, and exploring numerous attractions, it’s no surprise that feet can wear down quickly. However, fear not! With some strategic planning and care, you can ensure that your feet survive the adventure intact. Here are ten essential tips to help you save your feet at Disney World.

Taking a break to see a show like For the First Time in Forever is a great way to grab some rest for your feet.
  1. Wear Comfortable Shoes: This may seem like an obvious tip, but it’s crucial. Choose a well-fitting, supportive shoe with ample cushioning. There are lots of shoes to choose from. Some of my favorites are running shoes, Crocs or Birkenstocks. For all my tips on choosing your shoes check out my Best Shoes for Disney World post.
  2. Consider Orthotic Inserts: If you have specific foot conditions or require extra support, consider using orthotic inserts in your shoes. These inserts can help alleviate pressure points, provide arch support, and cushion your feet, reducing fatigue and discomfort. Getting an orthotic insert doesn’t take a special service or doctor’s visit. I have a member of my crew that uses inserts to keep his feet well supported and we’ve found that even these Dr Scholl’s inserts can make a huge difference. If you’re looking to find out what insert is right for you, visit your local pharmacy or discount store. Many of these stores will have a machine you can stand on that will assess which inserts you need.
  3. Break in Your Shoes Beforehand: If you’re planning on buying new shoes for your Disney World trip, make sure to break them in beforehand. Walking before you’re going to Disney can also be really important in prepping for your trip. Wear the shoes you are taking on the trip when you are walking before your trip! Even shoes you’ve had before can cause issues if you haven’t worn them enough or haven’t worn them recently. A few trips ago I took my most trusted Birkenstocks to be one of my park shoes. I’ve worn these shoes hours upon hours and would consider them to be very broken in BUT it was early spring, and I hadn’t been wearing them because of the cold. When I tried to wear them at Disney I got blisters simply because I hadn’t been wearing them recently.
  4. Take Breaks: It’s tempting to try to see and do everything at Disney World, but honestly that’s completely unrealistic. Take time to give your body a break. Take advantage of benches, seating areas, or indoor attractions where you can sit and get off your feet for a little while.
  5. Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration is essential for overall health, including the health of your feet. Dehydration can lead to muscle cramps and fatigue, making it harder to keep going throughout the day. Bring a refillable water bottle and drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, especially in the Florida heat. Don’t forget that Disney quick service locations will give you free cups of ice water, so it is easy to keep that water bottle filled and stay hydrated.
  6. Wear comfortable socks: Make sure that you are taking good socks as socks provide a layer of protection for your feet. Also, make sure that the socks you take will work well with the shoes you take. I would strongly recommend trying them on together when you are preparing for your trip. Throwing an extra pair of socks in your park bag can be another great tip to save your feet. This way if you get caught in the Florida pop up showers or get wet on a ride you will be able to put dry socks on and will be less likely to get blisters. 7. Pack Moleskin: Moleskin is my tried-and-true bestie when it comes to blisters. You can buy a small pack of moleskin pads to slip into your park bag for very little cost. These pads will far outperform Band-Aids when it comes to staying on and actually protecting your feet. The trip where my Birkenstocks gave me problems, the blister I got was actually on the bottom of my foot. I was able to cover this with mole skin, it stayed on all day, and I comfortably got through those 25,000 steps.
  8. Consider Renting a Stroller: If you’re traveling with little ones, consider renting a stroller, even if they typically walk on their own. There’s no way to prepare the little ones in your crew for how much you will walk at Disney. Having a stroller will help them rest and we all know a rested little one is much less likely to have one of those dreaded Disney meltdowns.
  9. Plan Foot-Friendly Attractions: Take advantage of attractions that allow you to sit or have shorter wait times to give your feet a break. There are shows in every park that allow you to get out of the sun and give your feet a break. Also, the longer sit down attractions like The Peoplemover or Living with the Land can be a great way to grab a little break.
  10. Take Care of Your Feet: At the end of a long day at Disney World, give your feet some well-deserved TLC. Soak them in a warm bath or trade a foot run. Another great way to pamper your feet at the end of the day is to roll them over a tennis ball. This works incredibly well and relieving the pain in your feet and then tennis ball in inexpensive and easy to pack.
