Are you planning a European getaway? For many, this type of vacation is a bucket list item. I know it was for me! We recently had a chance to live out this dream and take a two week European vacation. I was able to travel light and be comfortable and want you to be able to do the same. Here are some key tips for how you can be cute, comfy and not loaded down with luggage on your dream European vacation.
The Versatile Dress
When it comes to packing for a European vacation, a versatile dress is your best friend. Did you know that when you’re touring those historical cathedrals there’s a dress code? Most of these stunning churches will require women to have their knees and shoulders covered. Wearing a dress that hits you just below the knee is a great way to meet the dress code but not have to endure the heat of wearing pants. Opt for lightweight fabrics like cotton or linen that will keep you cool during warm days and can be easily layered for cooler evenings. A dress with a flattering silhouette, such as a wrap or an a-line, will ensure you look put-together while remaining comfortable. Dresses are also my favorite option because you can dress them down with sandals or tennies during the day and then transition them to dinner with a pair of heels and nice jewelry. You can find a wide variety of comfy dresses on Amazon or I had really good luck finding cute, comfortable, affordable options from SHEIN.

A good comfy dress is also a great option for your travel day and then can be used again later in your trip. This black dress is my travel go to! It is so comfortable and I love that it can kind of double as a blanket and keep my legs warm on a chilly flight. Throw on a denim jacket and some cute sandals with this and you are ready for about any activity.

Comfortable Sandals
Choosing the right footwear is crucial for exploring European cities on foot. It was not unusual for us to hit 20,000 steps per day while we were out sightseeing. A pair of comfortable sandals will provide the support you need for hours of walking while still adding a touch of style to your outfit. You can choose a casual style for walking throughout the day and then a dressier style if you are changing your look for an evening out. Neutral colors like black, tan, or nude will complement any dress in your wardrobe and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Choosing neutral colors will also allow you to pack less. We spent almost two weeks in Europe and I packed in only carry-ons! For this trip, I only took 4 pair of shoes which is an absolute miracle. For my versatile choices I took a comfy two strap sandal for the daytime, a lightweight and collapsible tennis shoe, a flat dressier sandal, and one pair of neutral heels.

Styling Tips
- Layer with Lightweight Pieces: Even in the summer months, European weather can be unpredictable. Be prepared for temperature changes by layering your dress with a light cardigan or jacket. I packed a linen button down which was another great versatile option. You can throw it over a dress, wear it as a shirt or use it as you pool cover up.
- Accessorize Wisely: Elevate your look with a few key accessories that reflect your personal style. Take neutral jewelry pieces that you will be able to wear with multiple outfits. Worried about keeping your jewelry organized? I found this jewelry case to be compact, easily packable and perfect for keeping my pieces organized and not tangled.
- Pack Light and Mix and Match: To make the most of your suitcase space, choose pieces that can be mixed and matched to create multiple outfits. Stick to a cohesive color palette to ensure everything pairs well together, allowing you to create different looks with fewer items.
- Don’t Forget Comfortable Undergarments: Comfort starts with the right foundation. When selecting what you’ll be wearing under your adorable looks, think about breathable or moisture wicking fabrics. Also, if you choose to go the comfy dress route, a pair of slip shorts can be key in preventing any unwanted irritation from all of the walking you’ll be doing.
A European vacation is an opportunity to immerse yourself in new cultures, explore breathtaking landscapes, and create unforgettable memories. By packing light and choosing outfits and shoes that prioritize both style and comfort, you’ll be ready to take on whatever adventures come your way while looking effortlessly chic. So, pack your bags, slip into your favorite dress and sandals, and get ready to make the most of your European getaway!
